Julia Lister
Julia draws inspiration for her work from natural forms, plants, trees, the landscape, insects and animals. She works mainly in charcoal and acrylics.
Julia studied 'A' level Art and, on a Higher Education Course, developed an interest in ceramics; learning to throw, glaze and fire stoneware. She attended Adult Education classes in painting and drawing with Penny Balding and then studied with the Bournemouth Arts Institute achieving various NCFE certificates. She continued her studies and successfully completed level 3 City and Guilds qualifications in Fine Art. She has enjoyed attending painting and life drawing courses with a variety of tutors including Bonnie Brown and Helen Talbot.
Julia starts a painting by making preliminary drawings and then developing, refining and reducing an image so that it becomes partly abstract whilst still retaining the essentials of the subject.
Julia admires the work of Cezanne, Klee, Turner, Piper, Gauguin and Monet.
Julia has exhibited in Dorset Art Weeks and at exhibitions at "The Hub" in Verwood, Poole Lighthouse and "The Gallery Upstairs" at Upton House.
