Penny Young
Penny has been a member of BAS for more than ten years and served as secretary for seven. Before joining she spent several years on various courses learning the techniques of watercolour. Previously she’d worked mainly with fabric using quilting and appliqué and selling via craft galleries. Her work was featured in Homes and Gardens and Country Living magazines. Painting took over as she wanted a more portable pursuit but recently she has discovered printing and collage. This fits with her love of vintage fabric, Japanese paper, found objects and ephemera. She has been experimenting with collagraphs, mono prints and lino cuts and has realised she can combine the skills she’s acquired and has been exploring using stitching, printing and painting together in her work. She thinks of herself as a designer, maker rather than an artist.
In the summer though she likes to get out her watercolours and join other members outside to paint.
The main thing for her she says is enjoying the process whatever the outcome.
