Gill Faraway

Gill became a member of the Broadstone Art Society about thirty years ago, which enabled her to develop her interest initially in watercolour landscape painting.  At that time she embarked upon a fine art correspondence  course, and also undertook  outdoor courses with Liz Deakin, Dorchester water-colourist, which together with art workshops and courses over the years have formed the basis of her training. 

She has exhibited at nearly all the club exhibitions since that time, with the exception of a period in the 80’s when she moved to Cheshire and became a member of the Stockport Art Club.   At that stage she was painting in watercolour, and exhibited with the Art Club at the Stockport Town Hall, and also with Artist Glenys Lawson at the local library.

Over the years her painting has evolved to include work in the acrylic medium, and as well as landscape and she now enjoys painting abstract and semi-abstract work using mixed media.  She has also produced stage scenery for local productions on occasions, which she found fun, but very hard work!

She is particularly interested in conveying atmosphere and a feeling for colour in her work and  finds watercolour is ideal for depicting our English climate and changing seasons.  She has recently enjoyed painting with acrylic paint and palette knife,  giving a free and impressionistic feel to her work.

Her paintings have been exhibited regularly in open exhibitions throughout Dorset.
